OFF TO THE CZECH REPUBLIC. CASTELLANI TALKS ABOUT YESTERDAY’S DEFEAT

Perugia (PG) -

PERUGIA – Sir Safety Conad Perugia is already travelling.

After yesterday’s defeat on the home field against Civitanova, the Block Devils have already left for Karlovarsko, in the Czech Republic. On Wednesday afternoon they will be playing the return match of the first round of Cev Cup.

It was a bitter awakening for captain Buti and his teammates, after suffering a KO in the PalaEvangelisti against Lube. Perugia played a flighty match, showing a good game sometimes, but lacking a winning attitude during the second and third set. Lube, instead, proved its quality and strength.

Castellani’s black-and-whites are at their second seasonal defeat, sixth in ranking with 9 points. They will play the next SuperLega match on Sunday, November 22nd, in Padova.

Going back to yesterday’s big match in the PalaEvangelisti, one thing that must be said is the beautiful view of the Perugia sports facility, packed with fans and able to give the event the most respectable, warm and athletic context possible. The club also kindly reminds its supporters that the sale of season tickets will end on Friday, November 20th.

Daniel Castellani, black-and-white coach, draws the technical analysis of the match:

«First of all, I have to say that we played against the best team we crossed so far. Lube did many things in the right way. We weren’t able to cause them any trouble in reception, while they made us struggle with their serves. Furthermore, they didn’t waste anything; after 20 points in the second and third set they had 5-6 important plays and they didn’t fail a single one, proving that they are a top quality team. If we want to raise the bar, we have to be good at taking advantage of the opportunities we create. We had our chances and we didn’t manage to take advantage of them. So, beside the final result, during the second and third set we were there, we had some opportunities and so did they, but Civitanova capitalized them and we didn’t. When you play games at this level, the difference is in 3 or 4 plays, not more».

Castellani, besides the final result on the field, draws further conclusions from yesterday’s defeat:

«I always see a defeat as a chance to grow. Obviously it hurts, but you have to transform it into something positive, to work better, find our defects, and give 150% to move on. There’s no other choice. So we have to remain serene. Today it’s normal that the defeat hurts but tomorrow it has to turn into energy to keep working».
