ANOTHER WEEKEND OF SUPERLEGA AROUND THE CORNER. THE BLOCK DEVILS ARE GETTING READY FOR THE AWAY GAME IN PADUA

Perugia (PG) -

PERUGIA – Sir Safety Conad Perugia is back home in the PalaEvangelisti.
After a long but positive European trip for Cev Cup, the Block Devils are back in the Pian di Massiano sports facility. Another SuperLega appointment, in fact, is just around the corner. On Sunday afternoon at 6 PM they will be playing the sixth match of the championship, against Tonazzo Padova. It’s a fearsome away game in Veneto for the team.

Coach Castellani and his guys want to restart in SuperLega, since they lost against Civitanova in the last match on the home court. Perugia is currently sixth in ranking and absolutely needs the three points at stake to rise in the ranks. This Sunday, the first four teams in ranking will be facing each other in two matches (Modena and Civitanova, Trento and Verona).

Hence, it’s vital to come home with a victory that would be of great support in view of the two matches on the home court, scheduled for next week. The team will be playing on Tuesday against Monza and on Sunday against Molfetta.

In any case, right now they are all focused on Tonazzo: this team is second to last in ranking, but it has already caused some trouble to both Trento and Civitanova (they lost both games after four hard-fought sets).

In the little time available before Sunday’s match, Castellani will mainly focus on the mental and physical recovery of the team, working mostly, under a technical and tactical point of view, on the opponents’ features and on some fundamentals like serve (already improved during the Cev Cup match) and counterattack.

Alberto Elia in attacco, Campionato Italiano di pallavolo maschile Serie A1 SuperLega UnipolSai 2015/16. PalaEvangelisti Perugia, 25.10.2015

Alberto Elia, black-and-white middle blocker, presents Padova-Perugia. He warns everyone about the hidden dangers in the Venetian away game:
«We have an important match in Padua. In SuperLega, we are coming from a defeat on the home court against Civitanova, so we have to try to restart immediately. It’s an away game against a tough opponent, a team everyone knows well, and they have one of the best scorers of the past season in Giannotti, opposite, and they also have new player of a good level. In my opinion, we have to pay close attention to the team we are facing and I am expecting a difficult match».

“Conan”, this is his nickname in the PalaEvangelisti, also talks about Sir Conad’s period and progress:
«We are coming from the positive break of Cev Cup that also helped us restart the path of growth we are following. The advantage of playing so often is that you can put the defeats behind you immediately, like the one with Lube. Right now we are trying to find greater harmony between us and I think that, besides a few results that weren’t positive, you can see several good features that we can count on. So I believe that we have to keep growing to reach the highest levels of performance and I am convinced that this team has them in its wheelhouse».
