THE SEVENTH WEEK BEGINS! TOMORROW TEST IN THE PALAEVANGELISTI AGAINST SORA

Perugia (PG) - Today the Block Devils’ work started with two training sessions. They are at their seventh week of preparation. Tomorrow afternoon, starting at 4.30 PM, they will have a joint training with the team from Lazio, one of the protagonists of A2 series.

PERUGIA – This morning Sir Safety Conad Perugia started its seventh week of training.

Double training session for the Block Devils: this morning they did physical work, under the eyes of sports trainer Giovanni Foppa. This afternoon, instead, they will do the technical work on the parquet floor of the PalaEvangelisti.

On the same floor, tomorrow afternoon at 4.30 PM, the Block Devils will face their fifth friendly test, in a joint training with Sora, one of the teams that will be a protagonist of the A2 series.

After last week’s good performances against Siena and Latina, Castellani has other tests scheduled for his guys. Saturday and Sunday they have a four-way competition in Ortona, against the host team, Castellana Grotte and Molfetta. The Argentinean coach knows that it’s vital to play as much as possible to absorb team mechanisms and fundamentals and to have an exact profile of the great work done during weekly training.

Tomorrow afternoon the black-and-whites will have another chance to make another step forward in the overall growth of the team. On the field, as always during this phase, Dimitrov as play maker, Tzioumakas, quite lively during the last games, opposite, Elia and Franceschini as trustworthy middle blockers, American player Holt (quite impressive last Saturday with his physical qualities) and Goran Maric (with his precious support to the black-and-white group during this phase) as outside hitters and the libero duo Giovi-Fanuli on the back row.

The other players are still absent: Atanasijevic, Buti, Birarelli, Fromm, Kaliberda, De Cecco and Russell. The last-mentioned will join the team around mid October, while the “continental” Block Devils will be in Perugia at the end of the European championships, which starts this week. Birarelli is continuing the physical recovery program set up with the medical staff in Perugia.

Going back to the test scheduled for tomorrow, Sir will be facing Globo Banca Popolare del Frusinate Sora, one of the protagonists of the next A2 series, based on the forecast of experts. The team from Lazio, with coach Fabio Soli (Bonitta’s vice on the Women’s national team and former setter of the Block Devils back in B1), will be in Perugia with a complete team. The last player to join the team, Dutch Hoogendorn, arrived last week and will be in diagonal in zone 2 with a competent play maker, Fabroni. In the center they should have Giglioli and Sperandio (born in ’92, from Treviso), while Mariano and Mattia Rosso, former Padova player and feather in the cap of Sora’s summer marketing moves, will be outside hitters. Santucci will play as libero and Marrazzo, Buzzelli, Bacca, Lucarelli and Festi will also be available.

Tomorrow’s test against Sora will start another phase for the Block Devils. The nth important week to strengthen the group and Castellani’s technical and tactical ideas. The appointment for the black-and-white supporters is tomorrow afternoon, 4.30 PM, in the PalaEvangelisti, Perugia. Sir will come into action
