PERUGIA – Hear ye! Day off for Sir Safety Conad Perugia!
After last night’s good performance against Monza, in the seventh match of the first leg of SuperLega, coach Castellani gave the team 24 hours off. A healthy day for the Block Devils, after a tour de force across Italy and Europe. They will be playing again on Sunday, November 29th: this match will be part of a tight schedule since in 14 days they will be playing five more times, with three away games (two in Italy and one in Slovakia).
Captain Buti and his teammates will be back in the PalaEvangelisti tomorrow morning, encouraged by yesterday’s positive performance against a good opponent and with two victories in a row. Perugia proved to have quality and concreteness more than once, taking advantage of several occasions and showing, especially in offense, excellent characteristics (61% in attack), also thanks to a super De Cecco and front rank attackers.
And also thanks to Fabio Fanuli in the back row! The Pugliese libero, at his third season with the black-and-whites, was called once again to take the place of his teammate Andrea Giovi (still recovering from a physical issue showed on Sunday in Padua). He did the job with efficacy and dedication.
“Faro”, one of the Sir Maniacs’ favourites, tells us the last 48 of Sir Conad and its six points earned in ranking:
«Six points in 48 hours are certainly the most positive aspect of the last two days. We earned them with opponents against which, only in theory, you would think there’s a problem if you only earned five. But on the field we all know that they are equipped teams and it takes hard work to win and it was obvious in Paduaand also last night. Against Monza, speaking about the last match, we played well and most of all I see two positive elements. One is technical, it’s the game showed during the first and third set, with a fluid volleyball and a high level of side outs. And an even more positive and important one under a mental point of view, during the second set when technically things weren’t going as they should and when the opponent raised its level and caused us some trouble. We managed to show our personality and our will to continue what we did in the first set, we managed to bring it home. In the gym we are working a lot on this aspect, Daniel (Ed. Castellani) pays attention to this every day and I personally agree 100%, because you have to be able to find a way even when things don’t work».
Right now Perugia’s goal is finishing the famous “perfect week” against Molfetta on Sunday, on the home court:
«After today’s day off, we will be back in the gym in good spirits. It’s our job, we are prepared and know that it’s important to stay focused on what we have to do. On Sunday it would of course be important to get three more points. However, Molfetta is a tough, with the makings of front rank team. I’m talking about the Cuban diagonal, experienced and of high quality, but in general a formation that is playing well. It won’t be easy at all, but we will try by doing our best».
This is with the contribution of the whole group, assembled by sports managers Goran Vujevic and Bino Rizzuto. During the last two games, Fabio Fanuli confirmed once again the quality of the entirety of the black-and-white team and also confirmed to be a player that you can rely on. The problem is that it’s extremely hard to get Fabio to talk about himself!
«Spending words on an individual in a team sport like volleyball doesn’t make sense. It’s true that our team is complete, like the things Tzioumakas did in Ravenna, and I think that it’s important to be ready in the time of need. About myself, I can only say that I am pleased that I gave my contribution to the team. The rest doesn’t count».
